An Improved Genetic Algorithm for the Vehicle Routing Problem

چکیده

The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is one of the most challenging problems in the optimization of distribution networks. A distribution model, based on analysis of most published literatures, relevant to route arrangement was established for VRP. Meantime, an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) was proposed to overcome both the shortcomings of premature convergence of GA and local search. Inversion operator and penalty function as the core of IGA were constructed to optimize the current GA. Computational results suggest that IGA solves the weakness of pure GA effectively and obtains the satisfactory solution of VRP, showing that this approach is competitive with other modern heuristic techniques in terms of solution time and quality.
